Haven't read this since I was 15. Rereading again for book club. Much different perspective as an adult. I think I subconsciously remembered this book and it seeped into my personality.

i learned about the three criteria for a cultural cuisine to emerge. I learned that China has the longest-practiced medical system. I learned about how advanced cooking, medicine, and the tools to create both were in China at the time. There was a lot of interesting information in this section of the book and course. I am very interested in China so I enjoyed this chapter.

This book is longer than 26 pages long, this is getting on my nerves. I'm not sure how I feel about the balance of power at all in this country, which is why I am taking this course.

I didn't know this country was uniquely an adversarial system and other countries had an inquisitive system and would like to know more about the comparative properties of governments one day.

Naturally, I'm going to have to continue to use this book for reference and go back and forth between pages. However, I find this book to be more informative than expected. Especially because it introduces perspective from various angles

Indian food is so diverse it should probably be a course in and of itself. I learned a lot about the caste system, how cows may have become sacred, and the common spices and spice trades between 2000BCE and the 6th century AD. I also learned about their early medical system with the Dosha and energy system, which reminds me of the five humors in early European medicine.

I learned that Medieval Chinese butchers were also paid assassins. The Buddhist reasoning was that killing animals already made their fate irredeemable. So killing humans would not cause them further harm.

At this point, I'm surprised there's still more to cover in this book. It's not over yet? What are we droning on about now? I'm going to try to give it a few more chapters to catch me but... I'm kind of tired of it.

It seems very difficult to get through the actual texts but I am glad about the way that we're guided on how to read the Analects.

I loved reading about the Greek history of food. Lots of interesting meals, many of which require very little cooking and lots of preserved items.
