So far this books has been TERRIBLE. The author has devoted entirely too much of the beginning of this book to John Tyler’s views on slavery and other people’s reactions to his views and actions (or lack there of) on slavery. First, the author devotes a large portion of the introduction to this topic. Then the first chapter is entirely devoted to this. It’s too much and it’s oddly placed for a biography.
