Oh this is funny, but really really bitter and dark, I’m getting second-hand anxious for the FMC, make better choices, Kira !

Im stuck at chapter 4 out of like 50 ,,, tough going 😬

What are we calling this, cobbers, bush noir? Dust harvest? Fantastic, fast paced, bleak and funny.,,,,

In the arid bush 4hrs north of adelaide, a lone cynical cop tries to keep peace in a small town where women die or disappear mysteriously and the fix is in.

Intense, fantastical story about the ghost of photographer in Sri Lanka who appears to have been murdered and is now haunting the real world , trying to work out what happened.

This ridiculously whirlwind historical romance between an arrogant rancher and a formerly-downtrodden seamstress never fails to bring the happy. Wonderfully written, plus lots of history about Californias Spanish, Mexican and Native American heritage and Queen Calafia packed in there too.

Its been a helluva few weeks, time to relax into the beautiful writing and plotting of the brilliant Ms J

500 pages in and pleased that this time I have NO idea of the solution to either mystery, its so well plotted.

Ohhh this is kinda easy to read and an addictive mystery, I went with different expectations but its unreal

Yet another reread, but need to ration it out - like the easter eggs its too rich to eat all in one sitting

This book is so unsettling, it feels like a Michael Hanecke movie. I feel so sus of the narrator AND her husband.

What am I reading ? Its a kind of sprawling gothic, literary, story-within-a-story mystery set in the height of facism Spain in the 40s and 50s , its wild.

This murderer is straight-away the most obvious one in the series so far, and the book is very long , so heres hoping the journey to the solution is worth it …

Most of the book is transcripts of the 3 brilliant writers in conversation, as they document the trial and attempt to figure out the motivation of the lady who poisoned her rellos with death cap mushrooms. I think they’re trying too hard to give the crime intellectual depth and her motive a deep psychological meaning when this was a stupid act of violence . Gotta love Helen with the non sequiturs though

Totally addicted, even though the mysteries are kinda obvious the characterisation, the pacing, the historical details all *chefs kiss*

Ofc i learned about this book series from a trusted blog, GR could never recommend anything so perfect for me - a gritty murder mystery set in a remote monastery in Tudor England , the investigator being one of Cromwell’s commissioners sent to dissolve it while also going through his own crisis of faith. And there are SEVEN of them , happy day

Again, so long winded and repetitive, the jarring POV switching, the cliches, the lack of joy and complete misery on all fronts for every character and all the rapes and things l disliked from the first 2,,,,

But, balanced out with breathtaking tension, dread, incredible plot turns , characterisation and WTF moments 🤷‍♀️

Some tough / gruesome moments for a fun thriller

This is wild, so funny and easy to read. Love the way our amoral hero is describing the nightmare of finding a preschool placement with more anguish than cutting up and disposing of a body lol

Another wild read, a series of interlinking fairytale-style stories told as a historical thriller/romance.

Another kind of cosy murder mystery, similar to Thursday Murder Club (written by UK tv personality, published around the same time) but with younger protagonists, very easy to read

Ayayay where are all these strands headed?

Halfway and trying to savour it, not ready to be done with Lyra and Pan and their world/s 😢

Ohhhh this is silly, fun , light as air and a great palate cleanser

Starting this epic again many years after reading the og ff , but turned straight to the end to check the final sentence was the same 😭 absolute cinema 🙌
