There's a Japanese Anime called BARAKAMON, which is about a calligraphy artist coming to stay in a small town, and it's one of the most calming series I've seen. Satoshi San is recreating the same beauty of simplicity , of the quiet little neighbour hood which boasts of books...a world completely away from Tokyo. Good simple read, but perhaps too simple to be honest.

End of chapter 1.

First - The way she quietly accepts the way boyfriend deceives her , and just rolls over and cried to sleep is a very Asian way to depict a "decent" , "normal" girl. I'd want every girl to rip such a guy to pieces

Second, she mentions how uncles playful personality made him her fsve as a kid and then as a teen she felt weird and didn't like him. I am thinking my daughter will think same for me

I've been through a couple of short chapters which are 2-3 pages long , and all of them have shallow , wannabe hippie stuff which probably impresses lost souls in a neon lights bar on a Thursday night , but otherwise I think gazing at a stone could be more profound

I wish I could get my money back ...and I'm making a mental note that good reads ratings can be misleading

Kunal is finished with The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis
THis is a depressing read, important but depressing to know what imperialism really did. I am giving this up and marking this hard cover as "read".

Consider this one sentence : " Keep your phone away"..Realize that Matt Haig has the gift of telling this same thing through heaps of words spread across chapters and chapters

I made some notes early on else I would have made an attempt to get my money back

This is the book which has forced me to think of my trouble with focus. The book is impeccable and so is the story, and yet I have not been able to finish it. Ive had it for almost an year or more.
At what point do we get thrown off from this site of readers ?

Haven't started it but so far every single member in my family : From my 90 yr old granma to my 2 yr old toddler : have given the verdict on this book just from its cover. "Meh"

I feel about this book the way one does for an underdog in a local pub beer game

Matt haig on one of his short chapters mentioned that we should not bother with ratings. Well, this book with its 4/5 rating is a prime example for it. It is an erratic book which looks like quickly put together version of a blog. And yes I agree that it can be a chaotic book, but then a repetitive message through needless words and miniscule research is something which could have been done by a 9th grade student.

The author is just repeating the same point again and again using different use cases. I find such non fiction books horrid.

Kundera- Its always about romance, sex and inner thoughts. It's amazing how he is one of the few people who burst the bubble- A life full of sex is hardly a one filled with happiness. Its a slap on the face of our popular media and fiction, who seems to push sex and happiness as a bundled packaged down the throat. (Hardly any pun intended)

I do not think i will stop reading this book. For next two years.

"Many, like the great Roman statesman Cato the Censor, looked at comfort, almost any
form of comfort, as a road to waste.1 He did not like it when we had it too easy, as he
worried about the weakening of the will."

The growth rate of Brazil was just 1% between 1993-2005 but the reduction in poverty was phenomenal. Courtesy: Successful redistribution programs Bolsa Famila and Fome Zero. India is embracing its food security through the new act, the comparison and what happened in Brazil will be interesting to read.

End of Chapter 1: When it comes to envisaging a new India, why is it indispensable for the authors to compare it with China and other neighbors?
Gaining motivation only by looking at other's progress is an imbecile approach.

I feel a new India will be an act of Implosion, not an explosion

Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better.

Gladwell talks about COntempt and relationships. "Contempt is any statement made from a higher level. A lot of the time it’s an insult…it’s trying to put that person on a lower plane than you. It’s hierarchical." Continuous Contempt from people around is so stressful that it destroys your immune system. I think this is a remarkable observation. Lot of our health problem could stem from this
