Every now and then I get the urge to try a classic. BN had this on sale for $5 with further discounts thanks to being a member. How could I pass it up?

p. 51 - "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."
p. 53 - "Orthodoxy means not thinking - not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness."
p. 54 -"He is too intelligent. He sees too clearly and speaks too plainly. The Party does not like such people."

This is beautiful- and chilling as fuck.

I don't need to explain why, do I? Also, I grabbed a paper copy because I'm sure Trump would prefer if we didn't read.

I get that this book is classic Epic Fantasy, but man, I have really moved beyond this kind of stuff. This may be a book that I pick at.

Read this initially in middle school, around 12 or so. Decided to give it a look with my adult eyes 20+ years later :)

Aliette de Bodard - although I wasn't a fan the first time I tried her, I really enjoyed this short inspired by Chinese mythology. Maybe I'll try giving her book another chance?
