I was not planning to start another book just now, but the power outage has made it hard to read words on a page, and I happened to have this audiobook cued up. So here we are.

A very different kind of read than my recent picks. This is less “fun time vibes” more “themes and mysteries make brain go BRRR…”. I am enjoying thus far, but anticipate this will be a slower read. Particularly because apparently I have decided to attempt to annotate this book, and currently have 5 different highlighters on the go, and it’s only chapter 2.

I anticipate maybe another 48 hours before I finish devouring this book. If the book is lucky to survive even that long.

I had a moment where I had to stop and appreciate, and maybe cry a little. I haven’t done a ton of reading physical books lately, audiobooks have just been FAR more convenient. But tonight while I was reading, some of the words sounded like my mum in my head. Not all of them, and the more I tried to focus on it, the harder they were to make out. But I haven’t heard her voice in my head while reading in years.

This story is ridiculous, but so far it’s a fun time. Long live dark lord Davi!

The Kauai o-o review is heart wrenching. The recording at the end feels kind of like what I have felt like over the past 5 months, desperate to hear a voice I will never hear again, except in recordings.

On a related note, I found a saved voicemail from my mum (several years ago) on my phone. It is short, less than a minute long. And I will treasure it for the rest of my life.

So far in Dark Lord Davi’s horde, we have a Captain of Logistics, a Captain of Shenanigans, and a Captain of Ass-Kicking. She gives her underlings GREAT titles.

I doubt whoever came up with that particular saying imagined it being applied by an aspiring Dar Lord, but it works.

Man, this book has some fun moments of sarcastic, but weirdly poignant truths.

I’m not even done the first chapter and I can tell this book is going to be a wild ride. Groundhog Day meets Deadpool in medieval fantasy land sounds like exactly the right description.

You know, it’s not billed as a memoir, but it definitely has the feel of you. And for a book that isn’t technically intended as a memoir (I think?), John Green sure does a good job of drawing attention to all the ways this is very much a memoir. If an unconventional one. Kind of makes me want to write a memoir in 5-star reviews of my own.

Ah, yes… the evil AI overlord. Classic, and somehow very poignant.

There are so many things going on right now that are making my spidey senses tingle. The manager guy seems very sus. But mostly Wade is being a douche nozzle and I am very inclined to agree with Samantha. There’s a lot of problematic.
