This book is bloody weird. I’m not sure it’s gonna be a read once but equally my brain needs to stay away from it for a bit.

I can’t find this book, I think I I lost it 😭

It’s mimis time

The story about Barcelona was lacklustre. The translation is not great. Still a solid lil book though!

So quick to read. Need to slow down and savour it.

Accidentally read a spoiler whilst doing some background research, hope I forget 🥲

This is barely getting slightly interesting but equally it’s hitting all the post apocalyptic cliches 🫠

So far I’m surprised at how casual the writing is. I think I expected this to be more “traditional” dystopian sci-fi but it’s very millennial conversational homogenous. Not sure how I feel about it but it’s too early to really tell.

I will finish it because I have to and then I will read The Basement.

I’ve started re-reading it and trying harder to honour the names of people and places. The poetry can feel a bit cheesy in a game of thrones prose way but I am enjoying the characters and the back-and forth between Abdulla and Oyxon’s story. The background I had about Uzbek sports and history from Central Asia is working overtime 😮‍💨

I love Valdin’s phone call with Xabi and I love their relationship.

I recently realised that books with long monotonous conversations, with little substance, are a struggle to read. I feel like this book -so far- has a lot of them :/ Also it’s hard to keep up with the names. I’m not so sure about this.

This book is so so lovely. The writing is beautiful and it reminds me of the first time I read Haruki Murakami. I’m taking my time and re-reading as much as possible to not miss any details.

I’m struggling to finish this because I don’t want it to end 😮‍💨

I still don’t think this book is LOL. More like ‘hah’ but I love the silly family dynamic.

Starting thoughts: reminds me of the Heathers. Full disclosure I’ve never seen The Heathers 🫡
