In first third of book, had a hard time “seeing” how the newly-come author to Verity’s house could just walk into the kitchen and help herself to some food…needed some padding there. Started to be a page-turner & then was almost-disgusted by Hoover adding epilogue-thingy about Verity leaving an explanation that her “autobiography” was just an aggressive-writing exercise. Bullshit. Tired of authors who throw in a p

Yikes. Once author started slinging around fancy gender terms, got seriously lost and shelved. Didn’t get far at all. Also, when you try to tell your partner that the “Eve” of mammary glands (boobs) was a little rat-like creature, make sure you remember all the reasons why/facts, lest you seem like an idiot. Lesson learned.

Meh. Got 3/4 of the way through and was so tired of new husbands. Then author stuck part on end that was just too much, too much of an unbelievable turn in end. Set it down, returned before finishing! All done.

Beautifully written. Author has an ability to describe universal experiences in words that would never occur to me.

Jumped around a bit and read a few key points. Main idea - middle age is a time to become the best you.

Chose not to pursue.

Got to Chapter 4 and stopped. Need a break from the Outlander series, after watching the second season on Starz. Not ready for all the political intrigue that is being described at the very start of this book. Feels like a choppy pick-up from the last installment ("Drums of Autumn").

Stopped reading at p. 74. Not a bad read, but also not an engrossing read. No spark for me.

Read up to Chapter 18 and then gave up on book. Very tedious, repetitive read with no bright spot to look forward to. Would guess that tragedy strikes again and again.

Didn't care to finish - boring read that drags on forever. Lost interest in the arc of this family's grief.

Laughed out loud at several points. Bizarre sex scene in a garden, but brilliant writing of a new-found love. Glad I read this one. Makes me want to vacation in England.

Intense storytelling. Deliciously intricate language describing inside of a beehive for reader to imagine. This book will and has forecast altered my gardening habits - forget useless ornamental flowers that don't provide nectar or pollen. All I want are plants that will further support pollinators who are in danger (in our actual reality, not just in this fictional novel).

Can't get into this book. May pick at a future date. Wouldn't rule it out.
