Way too American. Color not colour, measuring scuba in ft not metres, and PSI not Bar as we do in the UK.

Having reached chapter 4. In the UK we normally have Mum, not Mom - there seems to be alot of Americanised spellings for a British author and main character.
Most of the RM I know would say that you have to get higher than a Major to become desk bound, also a youth who failed his education so badly his only option was to join the RM is highly unlikely to ever become an Officer.

PLease get this edited, my version is horrifically littered with incorrect words, misspellings and grammar annoyances. A few of the most common ones are below.

No military would ever say during an exersize that a thing is "in seeing distance", it would be "in visual range".
