I almost loved it. I think my main problem is that the protagonist is sooo unlikable. There was really no one to root for. But I love the plot and the premise and the resolution.

This book is equal parts validating and exposing. It’s neat to read about the body positive movement in narrative form, but also a bit painful to read about the difficult experiences that the protagonist endured because of her size. Too relatable. Omg the scene when her grandma tells her that “when you’re hungry, you’re winning” is exactly what I used to tell myself. Exactly.

This book is meant as a toolbox for corporate type team leaders. It’s all of Brenda insights and studies applied to team leadership and management. It’s something that reminds me of my undergraduate work in Organizational Behavior. I wanted to read it because I’m part of starting a small homeschool co-op I aspire to get bigger. And I needed the boost of confidence and the reminder that trying is brave.

This book is all over the place. Maybe it’s me, but I’ve had a hard time focusing. Much of it seems unnecessary side stories… which is fine if it adds to the story, but I’m not sure much of it does.

Listening at 1.5x speed and it’s redeemed itself. Much better. And I do like the story.

Omg I don’t think I’ll be able to finish this. The narrator in the audio vision is blehhhhhhhhg.

I’ve owned this book for years and know it has a lot in it that will help me and enrich our lives. I struggle to focus on paper books and because I will be reading this on paper and not audio it will take me a long time to finish. But that’s okay. Im sticking with it

Though Peter Grey is an unschooling advocate and there are parts of this book that are directly discussing unschooling I also think it’s a valuable read for those not interested in that specific methodology.
One chapter I found especially interesting:
- benefits of mixed age play! So fascinating how the interactions benefit both the older and younger kids. ie observation and leadership

I’m enjoying it. I love books that include high amounts of research and studies explained in ways a non-academic can understand... and this book hits that mark for sure. There are bits that feel extreme, even for my relaxed-unschooly home education philosophy.

Good. But the narrator on audio has some strange mispronunciations: Mary J. Blige, an IRA (ira), and one more I don’t remember.

Chapter 44. So far, I’m intrigued by the story but oh my goodness I’ve never read “f*ck” so many times in a book. This fact, in addition to other reputations and a limited vocabulary makes this book seem a bit amateurish. But it’s entertaining.

Bleh. I’m trying to like this book. I really am.

But I don’t. And I don’t want to finish it.
