Das kurze Leseupdate muss sein, weil ich festhalten will, wie viel Kreativität zwischen diesen Seiten steckt. Die Autorin hat nicht nur diese wunderbaren Figuren und deren Reise erschaffen, sondern auch die unfassbar originellen Computerspiele, die sie entwickeln. Wie! Einfach nur wow.

Short Story #8: "Liking what you see: A Documentary"
I really enjoyed this one! The story handles a very complex idea - lookism - very well, without actually coming to a result. It's rather a debate, that's why its format, a documentary, is well chosen.

Short story #7 "Hell is the Absence of God"
I found this story quite entertaining! However, as usual, I did not really grasp the ending. I thought the story ridicules religion, but now it seems like it reinfoces it? I probably don't see what the author wants to express here.

Short story #5: "Seventy-Two Letters"
Though a bit too abstruse for my liking, this story posed some interesting ideas about the human species and society.

Short Story #4: Story of your Life
This one was faaar better! Probably because I like linguistics, but in general it felt a bit more humane and relatable.

Short Story #3 "Divison by Zero"
Honestly, after the second story I had thought it couldn't get any more mathematical. Well, I was wrong. This story felt like having to read a university paper on the laws of math - tiring.
Please, let there be less mathematical stories.

Short story #2: Understand
Better than the first one, though I lost trace of the innee monologue as the character grew more and more intelligent...

Finished the first short story, Tower of Babylon. I did not really get into it and got easily bored by the descriptions of travelling and mining. The ending also was a bit underwhelming.

Even without reading the author's description, I noticed that it stems from TikTok videos. It's very satirical, but something about it doesn't sit right. Maybe it's the naive protagonist, maybe the constant reminders of how evil The Villain is. I'll try to find out...

Very gripping so far!!

Bisher nur semi-überzeugt. Die Prota stellt nicht die richtigen Fragen, wodurch sich die Geschichte für mich etwas zieht. Auch hat Wrath, finde ich, keinen besonders ausgeprägten Charakter, außer dass er gutaussehend ist... Spüre die Chemie zwischen den beiden nicht so, wie man vermutlich sollte.

Reread, weil ich alles im Kopf haben will, bevor ich Band 3 beginne!

Yes, halfway there! I like the book and the idea of the sea rising up against humanity as some sort of revenge, but honestly, there are sooo many passages you could have scratched. So many scientific explanations that don't really promote the plot or the setting, like the workings of a satellite. Then this book would be much slimmer (and easier to devour).

Ich bin verzaubert von Nyuras Schreibstil! Und gespannt, was es mit den Andragalen näher auf sich hat. Der Name ist so schön gewählt!

Anfangs hat es sich sehr gezogen, weil erst die (wissenschaftliche) Basis für das Geschehen aufgebaut werden musste. Aber jetzt wird es spannend! Ich hoffe, die Spannung kann über den Rest des Buchs gehalten werden.

Die Seiten fließen weg wie Flusswasser - und gleichzeitig frage ich mich permanent, wie viele von den geschichtlichen Details real sind.

I'm wondering why the group of initiates is responsible for the security system? Surely a well-off organization like the Alexandrian Society can afford to hire specialists for the task. I'm suspecting there's more to it...

Gerade das erste Kapitel zwischen dem Unitag eingeschoben. Ich bin jetzt schon verliebt! Die Idee fühlt sich ... poetisch an, originell, interessant. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, weiterzulesen! (gleichzeitig will ich es aufschieben, um möglichst lange etwas vom Buch zu haben... But let's be honest, das werde ich eh nicht tun)

Ich hoffe, dass da noch etwas mehr Fahrt aufkommt. Es ist zwar ganz nett geschrieben, mit sympathischen und spannenden Charakteren, aber von einem Murder Mystery erwarte ich etwas mehr... mystery! Gerade liegt das Hauptaugenmerk mehr auf dem Leben der Charaktere, was sich ziemlich hinzieht.

Ich bin zwar noch nicht weit, konnte mich aber kaum von den Seiten losreißen! Die Geschichten sind so hypnotisch, und auch dadurch, dass es immer nur kurze Kapitel sind, die durchweg spannend sind, ist es der Beginn einer Sucht!

Beim reread ist es noch viel besser!

I admit, I am more scanning this book than truly reading it, but I feel like reading the dialogue gives more than enough of the necessary info. I cannot really like this series anymore since I don´t care for the characters, but I intend to finish it, just for the sake of it.

This book is so funny, I've never seen such a smug protagonist. It's like a comedy set in the 18th century with some social issues.
