Sigh…already with Percy lying to Joe again. Tbh, idk why it’s bugging me so much, I’ve dealt with liars in other stories before but for some reason Percy is just really irritating me with it. Maybe it’s because Joe is so clearly enamored with Percy and it feels like Percy is being extra manipulative because he knows that fact. I love the story and action and supernatural elements so far though.

Oof, more lies from Percy. Idk I don’t mind lying when it’s clearly distressing to the character doing it and they know it’s wrong but Percy just seems to not care at all. Then he complains about Giordano being a whore but as soon as he sees Joe being friendly he’s like “huh maybe a threesome in our future?” He’s just coming off so narcissistic and it’s making me feel so bad for Joe.

Oof, did not care for Percy continuing to lie to Joe where Eve and Anna are concerned. They’re adults, Percy should be honest and Joe should be mature enough to handle that Percy was with other people. Enjoying this otherwise by that was a bit frustrating because it’s clearly a heavy handed mention of a problem that’s gonna come back later. Like just resolve it now please.

Enjoying this so far though it’s clear there’s some background with the characters that I’m missing. I know this is a spin-off of the author’s other series so I’m not surprised. Things are moving a bit fast for me but again that’s probably because I’m only just meeting these characters so I don’t know all their past interactions.

immediately another issue!? at the end of one page Niko and Sage are in a hot spring talking there’s a page break and then it literally says Niko is “walking back into the room” to see Sage packing. sorry but they literally were just not in a room 2 seconds ago? no transition scene of them getting out of the springs? what is happening?

Sam told Niko in chapter 11 that May’s grandparents were petitioning for custody but he suddenly doesn’t seem to know that fact in chapter 15 when Sage brings it up? Even though Sage told him about helping Sam get a lawyer in ch 14 as well? Maybe Niko is just surprised it happened that weekend but it seemed like he was surprised by the whole situation. This book really should’ve had some more revisions.

40% in and I’m getting a little annoyed with bad editing. the grammar and all is fine but things keep getting repeated. Niko tells Sam how he used to play hockey and is leasing the restaurant in ch 7 and again in ch 8. both times Sam reacts as if this is new info. then he wonders how Niko has a nice car and money on an accountant salary, forgetting he was in the NHL and presumably sued for the faulty equipment.

I can already tell this is going to be one of the most difficult yet necessary books that I will ever read. I know I’m going to have to push myself to get through it but I’m determined to do so.
