Nice strawman. Not believing in evolution doesn't equal belief in Young Earth. Again, this is disappointing in a book on the importance of knowledge.

So Scales finally does the right thing. Why did we have to endure almost 100 pages of a pissing contest to get to this point?

This book is infuriating! Why is John still acting like Gen. Scales is a good guy? The general already broke his oath to uphold the Constitution by taking orders from those upstart, murderous Bluemont monsters. John isn't going to get a fair trial; it's going to be a kangaroo court, and John knows it, yet he keeps defending this creep. Aargh!

So, this is meant to be a rah rah girl power sort of book, but, it's funny, my 5th graders' main takeaways so far are:
1. What kind of mother abandons her kid? A really really bad one.
2. Enola needs to be in school. She can't be a detective; she doesn't know anything.

Mostly charming book so far. The historical inaccuracies about corsets are extremely annoying. Basically everything she says about corsets is wrong.

She claims vulgar Latin had no rules about grammar or spelling. Every language has rules about grammar! Even if they aren't written out in a systematic way, they are still rules! Native speakers of a language know how to speak their language because they have learned the rules if grammar.

Ah yes, when does English "begin"? There's no clear-cut answer that question.

Excuse me? "Lol" has no part of speech? It's clearly an interjection, and that took me mere seconds to figure out.
