WOW!

So: colonialism was oppressive and unfair. People were incredibly racist and bigoted in the 19th century, they even endorsed slavery!! The opium wars were really about profit!
Some people sought power and riches, lots of people were killed and many more left destitute.

We all (minimally educated people) know this. Noone has ever denied it. Why write about it as if we’re supposed to have an emotional response??

Dragging a bit. Feels it needed a better editor.

At the beginning i was intrigued. Wonderful new world with it’s own science and magic and history.
But then it got a bit much.
We get it. Kvothe is super duper smart, but i wasn’t expecting him to become the harry potter of his school, rather i was hoping for something different.

It’s enjoyable, so am carrying on, but i fear i might get bored soon

First let me say I agree with the book’s premise and tone.
But there’s an element of blackmail in this book. It feels it would be extremely un-PC to dislike it, for fear of being labelled a climate-denialist.
Not much of the info is new, but the urgency it conveys helps bring the apocalyptic scenarios down from science fiction to science fact.
Still, like it or the woke police will come for u.

Pg 173, and so far find it slightly superficial and anecdotical. Feels more like a long speech by an entertaining dinner-guest. It would work better as a primer if it actually referenced any of his assertions in evolutionary psychology and behavioural science.
