I'm really struggling with this book. I've never really taken to Laura. I've always found her annoying and whiney. It's the family unit I've always loved. Now there is nothing but Laura. And it has been nothing but whine whine whine. Which is frustrating. The only redemption is Almanzo. But I'm about to start a chapter called "Almanzo says good bye". 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Pa has a short memory....
He's oh-so-happy that they had such a mild winter. Yet, the last time they had a mild winter, they lost several years of crops to grasshoppers.
He's not even prepping.
He was clearly too dumb to be a farmer.

She's freaking out that her Victorian house has had ONE person die in it? ONE??
My 60 year old house has had THREE people die in it. And that's only the ones I know about.
She's freaking out that a 200 year old house has had ONE???

Laura is absolutely thick in this book!

Wilder has messed up on Carrie's age in this book.
Nine years have passed since the first book where we first met Carrie. In that book she was at least 1.
She should be around 10 now, yet she is being treated as though she was four or five. At the age 9, Mary was already being put in charge of the house and family, yet at 10 Carrie is still considered "just a little girl". It makes no sense.

This book has way too much description.
I'm struggling to connect to it the way I did the others

The book should have ended when Scarlett married Rhett. It went from being an epic war tome to being a boring domestic drama which glorifies a toxic marriage.

Rhett killed Bonnie.
He spoiled her until she was uncontrollable.
Scarlett was the better parent.

If I was Scarlett, I wouldn't have moved to Atlanta with Rhett. Those people are emotional vampires.

At this point Rhett is about 40 years old, why does he have the emotional reactions of a teenage boy???

Ashley and Rhett should have died in the war so Scarlett and Melanie were free of them.
Scarlett should have married Will.
Melanie should have married the one eyed soldier she was flirting with.

We have to face facts...
Rhett definitely groomed Scarlet

It's a pity Charlie didn't live. I think Scarlet would have grown to love him and they'd have made a good life together. He would have been a calming influence on her. Rhett just spoiled her and brought out the worst in her. Charlie would have been so calm and cool that she would have started to match him.

This author is OBSESSED with looks and whether or not people married above or below their "leagues"

I find these earlier chapters rather interesting....
It's a book about demonic possession, and yet the non-possessed Hollywood employees behave like demons.
Was the author trying to make a point with this?
