This is gonna be a DNF for me. Between the awkwardness of the humor and the British character's voice and the hokeyness of the idea, I think this is a no-go. Excited to get back to The Fifth Season though.

LOL, the ASPCA wanted a "Marshall Plan for the pets of Europe" after WWII. Animal rights groups are nothing if not consistent.

Giving myself permission to abandon this one. Sooooo tedious and seemingly pointless. How many stories does the author need to tell about how women/The Mother are the great unknown? How heroes are valorized for being intrepid? And WTF was with that story where he dreamt about his grandmother's pubes (and why on earth did he share it?!)?

Alright, this is a cute book but the coincidences are straining credulity juuuuust a bit

Oh god, it turns out he was writing this in the period after Allende's election and before he got deposed. And it's STILL so grim.

Reading this while reading Chernow's "Grant" is pretty heady. I wonder if TNC has read it yet...
