I’m listening to the audio book. Can I just tell you how relieved I am that Salome is pronounced Salome rather than “suh-loam?” That killed my soul a little bit every time they said her name in the movie.

I’m going to be real honest with you. I’m about halfway through. And while this book is about an ax murderer, which isn’t exactly a peaches and cream topic, it also includes talk of lynchings of young black boys and black men that is making it real hard for me to read. Timing: Derek Chauvin was sentenced yesterday. Personal bias: two of my 9 kids were born in Haiti. So I feel like I have skin in this.

Starting the book: I really liked the previous books in the series. I think Rowling is talented. But after repeated transphobic statements on Twitter I was NOT going to buy it. Then I found out there may be a trans or trans adjacent storyline in this book. And I was more determined not to financially support her. And I wanted to see for myself what she is saying. Enter overdrive. I can read it & not give her $$.
