Fascinated by the topic, but really really struggling with the way this was written. Scatterbrained, not cohesive, too many glaring personal opinions and pointless observations shoehorned in. Where was the editor for this? Not living up to my hopes, but pushing through.

It's looking like I might DNF this. Interesting concept, terrible execution. I wanted to like this, but I can't get past the writing - too much tell instead of show, I'm not feeling compelled any of the characters, the story and themes are a bit a-jumble, and the setting is lacking vibrancy, which I don't understand because the idea of an India-inspired setting, and sapphic women bringing down an empire sounds great

Why am I doing this to myself?

Audiobook loan auto-returned to library, so now I have to wait a couple more months to hear the rest...

Finding myself smiling actual, big grins while listening to SirPatStew read the audiobook of his memoir. So far, entertaining, emotional, and inspiring.

First book I've read that comes with a medical/liability disclaimer...

1st chapter about Nicole's parents' family history was a little tedious, but the rest of part I has been a page-turner.

Somehow, MS has already pulled in info from some of my other favorite nature/science books over the last few years: Kimmerer, Yong, Simard...

The detective's tale was kinda weird, kinda fun. I'm just wondering where everything is going from here

Well, the scholar's tale destroyed me. After reading it last night, I just lay in bed, unable to sleep, listening to my baby breathing in her bassinet.

I didn't much care for the soldier's tale...

However I love the poet's use of fucking language

I started reading the priest's tale with enchantment at the descriptions of a lapis and verdant sea and a firey coral sunset and ended the priest's tale with horror.

Me: well, first I Iistened to Return of the King narrated by Andy Serkis, then I listened to it narrated by Rob Inglis. Next, I listened to Fellowship of the Ring by Rob Inglis and now Andy Serkis.

Joe : usually not the last third twice and then then the first third twice

I don't think I could manage audiobooks, even very well done ones, except in this case: because lotr is so familiar to me, it hardly matters if I get lost in thought for several minutes and miss a large section of the reading. As it is, this has been wonderful background lately.

Rosamund and Bulstrode have me so angry and I feel so anxious for Lydgate. Thank goodness for Dorothea!

Trying out audiobooks on Libby! Normally I can't do audio, but I have no hands available to hold a book, so we will will see how it goes. Andy Serkis is very expressive

Becoming very invested in the characters - didn't want to stop reading last night!
