Lynda is on page 247 of 752 of Jerusalem: The Biography
Skimmed an article in National Geographic about recent excavations in Jerusalem, which reminded me of this book. Layer upon layer of cultural back and forth mixing the deepest spirituality with terrible violence and tensions.

Discovered reference to what sounds like a seminal book for its era: Facing Mount Kenya by K. Jomo (1938). Still appreciating John Darwin's sweeping coverage of European empirical period.

I don't know why I should be, but surprised to discover how much was going on in the years before WW I. Intrigued by India's move toward change and "Ataturk". I had no idea Turkey ever outlawed the veil for example.

So, apparently, the black arctic clam (Arctica Islandica) is the longest lived animal. One has been found that's 374 years old. But somehow I can't be jealous. Three hundred years as a clam feels like very bad karma situation.

Comparing my recent re-viewing of the move "Lawrence of Arabia" with the book is enlightening. Still love the movie. The images from it fill my head as I read the book. The mysterious / ambiguous bits make more sense though.
