So far we've seen Marjane go from a rather accommodated childhood, with privileges and a fair amount of richness, to living in the streets. A child forced to grow and become an adult by the situation she is facing.
Far away from her family, rejected by most of the locals, she relies on her first proper relationship and on substances for comfort. Once both fail her, she decides it's time to go back home.
