Sometimes, you start a book and know from the first paragraph that it is going to be outstanding. This is one of those books.

Where are the continuity editors? How much are these people paid???? Simple "fact checking" from the last three chapters of the previous book should have been enough! Talk about distracting...

Sometimes I forget how much I love Dean Koontz, until I start reading him again.

This is a reread, or a listen of a past read (5☆), so far I don't remember it, so it's like new. And just as brilliant as I apparently thought it the first time.

msleighm is 52% done with Snow Falling on Cedars
Audiobook. Another wonderful-horrible book about war. WWII and the Japanese detainment centers, told in flashbacks from the point of view of members of a fictional island off the coast of Washington state. I understand it's loosely based on a true story. Well deserved winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

I have to take a break, I'm heartsick. I live in New Jersey and remember this in the news. It's an excellent book and I'll definitely come back to it, but I just want to go out to my white privilege garden and cry.

msleighm is starting Bloodless (Pendergast, #20)
As much as I wasn't a fan of the prior narrator (any accent other than southern was questionable at best), at least he understood the characters, having lived with them so long. I hope all is well with him.

The new narrator is reading Constance like a prison warden. It's making my skin crawl. I'm on chapter 6. If it continues like this, I may have to return it and get it in another format.

msleighm is 67% done with The Silver Skull (Elemental Web Chronicles, #2)
Audiobook, usually I don't care for romance, but I love Steampunk. The first sex scene moved the plot, now it's becoming gratuitous. In a physical book I would skim, audiobooks if you skip forward you potentially miss plot, so I have to suffer through it.

Egads! Where is the editor? One too many bottles of wine perhaps? I'd put it down but I usually enjoy the plot in the end. It's short, I'll continue to grit my teeth.
