Alison Espach has become an auto-buy author, everything she writes completely transports me into the lives of her characters. Her characters are written so beautifully- complex, flawed, funny, they are human.

Ok, this book requires more brain power. So I'm reading it slowly- to enjoy it, and understand all the multiple POV's. The background of the characters are being revealed and the reveals are heart wrenching. Amazing world building the glossary is being referenced a lot!

So far I'm loving the portrayal of Jane, a talented, female musician standing up to a male dominated music industry in the 70's.

So far, this book is making me nostalgic about being 13 yrs old, first love, and Sam is so kind. Easy, enjoyable read so far

Ok, so I struggled finishing book 1 & 2 (rated them 3.5) but kept reading for Aefe, and so far enjoying this book more than the two other books.

I did not do the tandem read, and after Empire of Storm, I needed a bit more calm. The story is medium paced and with a mystery, so it's keeping me intrigued, and the new FMC is amazing. Now I've always liked Chaol, he has made mistakes, but all the charcters are flawed, I'm very interested in how all this new knowledge will help them in Kingdom of Ash.

OMG, how can this book and all the books in this series be so good! Demi Winters is my auto-buy author, I'll read anything she writes!

So far this feels like a 5 star read. I'm hooked and I'm loving the magic system, and I'm cracking up with the monster's commentary in her head.
