Just finished the fourth of 24 stories. Attacking them in random order.
Good thus far, with a definite boom-era feel, but not all that distinctive, creepy or surprising. Pleasant, but there are reasons why Hautala has always been a mid-carder.

"Calendar Girl": Sweet and sad; reminds me of Ellison's stories about women, sans venom. Also reminds me of a Gaiman story, though I forget the name.

Gills is a love song to the black lagoon. Liked it a lot.

Finished (Melodrama), a sweet paean to the old creature feature of a bygone era.

Have now read all but the final story. This is brilliant stuff, but opaque.

Finished "Exeunt Demon King", the first story; loving the narrator thus far.

"Safe House" was fun.

Chapter 35. Hope to finish this before I sleep.

"Pick Me Up" was another fast-n-nasty, black-humored treat.

Got it working again. Finished "Sedalia", about dinosaur cowboys. Good stuff.
