~another book bringing up vanderpump rules! I'm gonna have to employ LVP as a unit of measurement at this rate.

"Regardless of how horrible the events described here might seem, there's one thing you must remember as you hold this book in your hands: all of it really happened, every word is true" is a great way to wrap up 39 pages of build-up to start the story proper. I don't quite know what I'm in for, but I'm apprehensive and cautiously excited.

It's giving pretentious to the highest degree. why are we using words for the sake of using words?? what am I actually reading?? (I'll persevere)

Interesting to read a memoir where someone talks about how hard their life has been while experiencing so many privileges others will never have access to.

Library loan expired. To finish sometime in the future to see how delusional the rest of the memoir is!

When Libby doesn't have the graphic novels you want to read, then you resort to public libraries in other cities and countries that you don't have library cards for. Thank you Seattle Public Library (central), I'll be back.

That's a wrap on 'His Last Bow'. Nothing phenomenal to remark, except the final short story was written slightly differently and the change in character awareness got me good, I for sure thought I missed a tonne of context. Oh well.

Another collection of short stories complete. I don't remember what I wrote about the last collection, but the power of omission through storytelling is interesting to ponder.

I recommend reading The Hound of the Baskervilles while staying in a foggy outport in Newfoundland, it helps set quite the mood. I last read this a decade ago and found I couldn't recall who our villain was, and definitely got some of the story mixed up with the events in the corresponding Sherlock episode. Still an enjoyable read though.

Spoiler probably. It's a funny feeling to read 'The Final Problem' when there's 60% more of the titular character to read! & what a move to introduce the main villain and then kill your character off (...until you're pressured into bringing him back for publication of course). The Hound of the Baskervilles is next. I know the "hound", and I can never shake the eerie feeling of the story in the Sherlock tv series!

That's a wrap on The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Out of the 12 stories I think I figured out 3 or 4 of the villains but nothing else of the crimes. It's amusing to think key details are SO key you might have some historical/environmental/political/human context where you think "ah but of course it was carried out this way."

This update concludes 'The Sign of Four', and aside from general thoughts about Victorian romances, and criminals confessing to all (across all Sherlock Holmes I've read), this I hope to be memorable: "For me," said Sherlock Holmes, "there still remains the cocaine-bottle." And he stretched his long white hand up for it.

Finished 'A Study in Scarlet'. Second time I've read this (almost 11 years ago, fancy that) and I completely forgot what happened but arrived at the same misguided(?) conclusions before the mystery began. It's a good intro to Sherlock Holmes, and what I find interesting the most is (currently) he isn't as snarky/sassy/sarcastic as current media portrays him - stay tuned on this front as I make my way through...

not 100% in love, but most of the familiars haven't crept up yet (I also definitely haven't read a poem a day for the last two months)

I've had this book since April 2010. It's time to face my fear of falling out of love with my image of Keats. Let's see how a poem/love letter a day goes for 100+ days 😬
