I was transported to other places…a border crossing, a garden, a war zone. The sights, smells, sounds were vivid. She has a strong sense of home lost…and remembered.

This book gave me lots to think about. The story was layered and had some twists and turns. The beginning and the last third were particularly tight and suspenseful. I enjoyed reading about this family and class and time which I don’t think I’ve read much about. I loved the way the story wrapped up.

I don’t read many murder mysteries. I appreciated the ending but wasn’t a big fan of the style. I wish the POV didn’t change every chapter and didn’t like not knowing the victim till the end.
