One long rant against the evil that is Republicans.

Might be too boring... And also I'm already thrown by a sentence early on that was like "the last breath was kicked out of his body... He was afraid it was going to be his last breath".

I figure if I want to read Demon Copperhead, I better start with the inspiration?

I have to say, I'm not entirely sure what her magical thinking was, but the book was fantastic. This is my first Didion, and she certainly didn't disappoint.

Fun Easter eggs throughout, silly villain, interesting thoughts on morality and relationships, but overall forgettable

The more I learn about our nation, the more I understand how racism isn't inevitable or natural: it was carefully cultivated to protect capitalist interests.

Similarity to Harry Potter when she receives that letter. Life of dullness and servitude, but for her there is no escape to a magical land because her slavery is her gender.

I’m not getting a strong feel for Frank’s personality yet. He shines through more clearly in second person in the Likeness.

Main takeaway thus far: good guys have good complexions, bad guys have bad complexions.

The nonlinear/flashback organization is very well done. I the backward, forward reveal of details that fills the story in patches.
I also love the deft prose and language; conversations move quickly and sometimes I’m not sure what they’re talking about, but if I reread or think about it, I get it and then I feel clever and love the cleverness of the characters.

Bored.

At least 3/4 of this book are Harry, Ron, and Hermione conversing. I'm not complaining, mind you, but once I noticed it, I am astounded to see that practically the entirety of the plot happens as they sit around and talk.

Picked it up again! Had to Sparknotes my way back to where I was :)

I'm a little into it but I'm having a hard time with the new setting and plot. I just want more Mistborn! It seems like several of the aspects of this new world are quite similar :s

slow going. I'm not sure if I can take this plain yet foreshadowed style of writing about a series of seemingly unconnected middle eastern adventures for another 200 pages
