Finished the Three Attic Whalestoe letters too, also mid-transcript of Tom Navidson

I have one bookmark in the Navidson Record and one bookmark in the Appendix letters from the mother of Johnny Truant. Whatever Zampano was trying to pull on the reader, it’s working.

Consider my mind already fully bent, so much so that there is physically not enough skull to retain it. One might say the inside is bigger than the outside…

No notes. Exactly the fantasy western I wanted, needed, and hoped it would be.

It feels like Gideon has more permanently stepped into the same realm as Ray Kinsella from Shoeless Joe had while in meeting Doc Graham in Minnesota.

Took more effort than it should have, but I finally got to read the missing page and resume reading the book—which, to me, is like an extension of a particular scene/chapter from Shoeless Joe.

This edition of the book was bound without pages 137-8, so I’m waiting on an older copy to arrive to fill in the blank.

Day One! Lord Grimdark, you’re done it again

Required reading in high school. Nice to have the pressure removed and reading faster because of it, ironically. Certainly thinking more critically and enjoying it. Between this and Malamud’s The Natural, blending baseball with fantasy should inspire more books/stories like themselves. I love the genres separately, and together they better illustrate the romance of the game and the resilience of humanity.

Alternating baseball fiction with First Law spinoffs this summer!

I love when spin-offs further the overall narrative as opposed to choosing random points from a timeline.

A shameless, violent revenge tale is better than most any kind of fiction available—fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc.

Can’t believe how much I’m digging this book. Loved the First Law trilogy and now this one even more. Monza truly is an Edmond Dantes unto herself and I’m here for it.

Absolutely loved the First Law trilogy, so I was unsure of a sequel-spinoff. Firmly entrenched in the book, and I can say it might be my favorite of the series so far. Like a fantasy Count of Monte Cristo.
