Been excited to read this for a while! Can’t wait to see where the trilogy finishes.

Wow! Crackling pace! I don’t think I’ve sprinted/flown through a book faster in my life. Nice to get a few baseball vibes in while the season starts up this year.

Rocky reminds me of Archie or Dr Blue from Rama Revealed…

Having only seen the film adaptation of Weir’s ‘Martian’ w/o reading the book, I can still see the repeated complaints of that narrative’s protagonist in relation to this one’s. They are hilariously similar, BUT— PHM has a terrific pace and as far as recycled character tropes, there are worse ones that are harder to root for. Not gonna be hard to keep going.

Starting to agree with the majority consensus. Yes, it has the story and vibe of a Frank Herbert Dune story, but no, it does not feel fleshed out and patiently edited/revised.
