46 years ago today Oscar Romero preached from the text of John 12 that unless a grain of wheat died, it would remain only a solitary grain. But when the wheat dies, “the earth allows itself to be sacrificed, broken; only in being broken does it produce the harvest.”
Shortly after this line, a man walked into the church, shot, and killed Romero.
Today, March 24, marks 46 years since that moment.
