It begins!

I love how the author Grammar policed a character for using “who” instead of “whom” and then they proceeded to use “whom” when “who” should have been used.

If you are going to be a Grammar Nazi, do it right.

“Hijos de perra”?

Someone used Google translate to directly translate a phrase into Spanish when the actual phrase is something quite different.

I don’t even speak Spanish, but I know enough to cringe when I say this.

Maybe I should pick this as a buddy read…

Whelp, I don’t think it can get any more depressing than this, so I assume the book is about to go into an upswing.

So, I’ve been searching for this since I read the last one, and apparently Natalie has hidden it when I went to bookstores since she had already bought it for me for Valentine’s Day. Sweet, but also sneaky!

So, apparently my wonderful wife is much too clever for me, and she already had this book for me as a present for my birthday (May). But since I was moping about not having the second book after finishing the first, she surprised me with it 5 months early.

The Chessmen of Mars

Definitely one of the weirder ones in the series. Interesting in that the hero of the story is not John Carter or his descendent, but rather the heroine (damsel in distress) is. I expected Tara to do feats of earthly strength, but let’s just say this book is a tad... dated.

Thuvia, Maid of Mars

All the usual cliche and expected things, but still a fun, albeit somewhat dated, read.

The ending was a little abrupt though.

I have been getting mixed messages on whether or not I would like this.

Sort of a continuation of the second one. This time, we discover two more communities of martians and all sorts of peril between. No real suspense because John is essentially Mars’s Superman, but a fun read nonetheless.

Wasn’t expecting a cliffhanger for these books. Same basic premise. John Carter is on Mars once again. He is awesome at everything. John Carter saves the day... or does he?

There is no way that 93 years in the future after a vampire apocalypse that an American refuge city in California would be using the metric system for distance.

In a book with immortal psychic vampire monsters, that is the least believable element.

Who in the world spells “Miss” as “Ms” for a character that is speaking?

The reader for the first one was much better.

I can hear Sully and Nate’s voices. This book is very in character for them.
