Fascinating story of how corporations, their entities, and the various other companies bought up by them contributed to the camp fires. So far in, I’m understanding that PGE bought lines from other energy companies through mergers and never did upkeep.

Stomach churning but elegant in its prose, leaves you to fill in the blanks without being horribly explicit. The pedophile operates by finding a vulnerable child in tumultuous situations - I keep finding another vulgar development upon each page. When Karen came into the picture, my heart sank. I feel Inès knows.

Ohhh great we caused WILD DEER to have a wild variant of prion diseases by keeping Buck Breeding Farms for recreational shooting who were fed cake (other animal remains, probably sheep with scrapie) and then escaped hunters and met wild deer and passed it on. I hate humans. “ Not all farmed deer are shot, though: some escape and breed, and some of those did also pass on the disease.” 224. Eek

“In the United States it is illegal to feed chicken droppings to cattle, and since chickens are fed cattle protein – some from downer cattle – in Freon survive excretion cattleman, and turn, be adjusting their own contaminated crayons, and the chicken feces. (This state of affairs is worth some enough that McDonald’s the largest user of beef in the country complained in a 2005 letter to FDA)” 219-220. Wow

“the Reagan Revolution, with its emphasis on letting businesses do business, essentially pulled the plug on government inspectors in their authority. Today, meat companies run their own inspection systems, while USDA inspectors mostly examine the records of the companies for compliance” 212-213. OH OKAY HAHAHAHAH

Good, full of information. It’s subtly terrifying, but the horror did not hit me until the chapter “did humans eat humans” where the links were made apparent.
