Poirot has finally made an appearance!

Poirot is tackling a cold case to potentially free a unlikeable but wrongly accused man.
I skipped 2 volumes of short stories to get to this, and it’s just the kind of plot I wanted to sink into.

I like this dual timeline mystery series.

It’s funny how the characters keep talking about what a 70 year old man might be physically capable of. They should meet my dad, who still chops firewood and might be more active than half the 30-somethings I know.

This recording is a full cast dramatization, so it’s entirely dialogue. I like plays, but I apparently prefer my audiobooks to have the stage directions and narrator’s voice.

I’m plugging away at it, but the Poirot short stories just aren’t the same.

Travis Baldree is a talented narrator, but all I can hear with his voice is Raul the crab…

I love her writing, but cancer is playing side role in the story that I’m not in the right place for right now. I want to read more about the gardens and untranslatable words, but maybe after my dad’s most recent treatments are more of a distant memory. Hitting pause to return at a later date.

Like with the author’s other works for adult readers, there is a strong theme of grief/loss. The MC sits with that past (but still raw) grief for part of 1-2 chapters so far.
The synopsis also gives away a lot of the story. This part of the book is only halfway through the synopsis.

Restarting this tonight

I like how Hawthorne has evolved as a character. He struck me as very narrow minded and off putting in the first couple books. This one has less banter between them though.

I really have no idea who did it… Maybe this person, maybe that, maybe together??

Comfort reread

Here’s hoping I don’t need to reread The Midnight Library first.

Another highly unlikable parent!

It’s an amusing plot, but I lost focus and needed a break.

This author has become a must read for me. I’m enjoying the beginning of this.

In the US, this was previously titled Poirot Loses a Client. I would have found that title more intriguing. I picked this up because it’s chronologically right before Death on the Nile.

If interested in this one, be aware it has spoilers for a few others in the Hercule Poirot series.

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve laughed out loud and said, “This is so dumb!”
If you have ANY of the physical books (US editions at least), look at them with a black light. Very cool.

Parts of this book have made me absolutely cackle out loud.
If it pops up in the app, the interview between Goodreads and the author is really well done & interesting.

I care so deeply about these characters…
