I enjoyed this a lot when I read it several years ago as a basically conservative work of social criticism; knowing substantially more about Strauss and his approach to political philosophy now, I’m getting even more out of it. A satisfying feast of a polemic.

The more times I read this, the more I become convinced that it’s actually the most important work of philosophy in at least the past four hundred years.
