Really enjoying this. Wasn’t sure I would, but it’s fascinating, a little like reading a history of England in the middle ages.

David Goodhand is on page 32 of 222 of While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I first read this book in the late 80s when I found it in the English book section in my local library in the outskirts of Stockholm. It made a real impression on me and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember the authors name nor the full title, but, recently, I asked some knowledgeable people on a Facebook page and was able to buy a copy through eBay. I’m now on my way reading it again!

I read this many years ago and thought I should rediscover it. Whilst I remember the story, I’m enjoying it again. Very interesting and extremely well researched

I read this (and GJs other books) many years ago and they’ve been sat on my shelves for ages. I’ve started them again, as, having lived in South Africa now, they resonate more. Great books for fans of Alistair McLean, Brian Callison or Wilbur Smith. I’m thoroughly enjoying this one again!

I’m enjoying this - it’s an interesting “double story” really - partly about the dreadful racism in the U.K. in the 50s and 60s (has it really changed that much?) and the loneliness of growing old alone and the fear of meeting people.
Very cleverly written and descriptive.

Not as gripping as the 1st book in the trilogy (The Broken Lands), but I’m still enjoying it.

Struggling with this .... just doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere. If I wanted to read a book from around that time, I’d go for Jerome K Jerome’s Three Men In A Boat, which is infinitely more funny and interesting. Unsure if I’ll actually finish this, I’m afraid .....

Enjoying this. A decent study on life, loss, heartbreak and potential recovery. I’m awaiting the twist (if there is one)

Really interesting. Cleverly written - all those things we have inside us and don’t share with anyone, even those closest to us. Emotion, secrets, events ....

It’s ok, but a little tiresome. I’m not enjoying it as much as some of his others. I’ll stick at it though ....

This book is astonishing. It’s like reading descriptive poetry and phrases such as “Time ensures children never know their parents young” are just magical. I’m having to read this book in small chunks because, even though I’m desperate to finish it and see what happens, I need to pore over every sentence to take in the sheer beauty. It’s an amazing work of literature

Read these years ago and am revisiting them. Just finished the first book which was utterly brilliant and compelling. A real page turner. About to move on very soon, when I’ve finished a couple of others I’m reading.

It’s good - typical John Sandford, loads of interesting and diverse characters with the murder being, almost, an aside to whatever else is going on. I’m enjoying it. Not convinced it’s not as good as his “Prey” series, but it’s a good read!
