Haven't been able to get my teeth into a book yet this year, so much going on. Hoping this grabs me. With gun reform such a pressing concern lately, the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been very much on my mind.

Very fine storytelling.

Mind blown so far by the author's adeptness at bringing us smack into the story and setting. It's almost as if the story is being fed straight into my thoughts.

Stumbled on this author while working on an assignment for the flash fiction workshop at WriteFest this week. Not sure how I hadn't heard of him before. His flash piece "How Clouds Form: The Orographic Lifting of the Mother" takes my breath away.

One of my favorite things about pursuing the writing life in Houston is getting to know brilliant people generally, and particularly those from other cultures. Anis Shivani is an opinionated, outspoken, hugely generous, and gifted writer, with a deep dedication to authenticity. See also his poetry and NF.

Favorite novel of my new writer friend Kate Lechler. Have to try, because she is very smart and cool. Hope I can follow all the threads of this one: brilliant premise and world building, allowing for all kinds of theo-philosophical rumination!

I just finished Euphoria. Rich, taut, devastating. First published novel I've read straight through in eons.
