Still on page one, and idk what I expected from this, but it definitely could have used at least one pass from an actual editor. We'll see how long the premise keeps me invested.

I've listened to several books narrated by Vico Ortiz atp and idk if this is the first one they did or what, but they absolutely should not have been chosen for this. I do think it should be a basic expectation of a narrator they they know how to pronounce the words they're reading. I want to share the too-long list of mispronunciations, but it will require several updates.

Love Vico Ortiz, but so far, they're not doing a great job with the narration on this one. The constant mispronounced words are grating on my nerves.

This is giving that scene from Hazbin Hotel where Alastor says, "Should I? Perhaps. Will I? No. Do I enjoy being difficult? Most definitely."

As someone born & raised in MN, I /can't/ with the narrator's attempt at a Minnesota accent, especially given that the character in question starts defending maple syrup like it's a personal identity trait XD

This is the most captivating one so far. It's flown by, and I wish it were longer.

Loving this just as much as the others I've read so far, but it feels like this one wasn't edited as well. There's a lot of repetitive sentences, sometimes even clauses repeated word for word in the same chapter.

"Childhood melts, and flights of fancy are replaced by rules... Talking foxes are a sign of fever, not guides sent to start some grand adventure. But children, ah, children. Children follow the foxes..."

"Follow the Foxes" was literally the title of an isekai book I was once writing. So, after reading 3 of these books now (out of order) and becoming obsessed with this series, this bit nearly made me throw my phone

Maybe it's because I started this after just finishing a 5-star read with fantastic narration, idk, but I'm immediately tempted to DNF this before I've even finished listening to Chapter 1 because the narrator is awful 😩

I will never emotionally recover from this book

This is already one of the most compelling stories I've ever read, and we're somehow only on Chapter 9??
