This book seems to be one people either love or hate. The hate made me flip flop on reading it for years and seems to boil down to 1) a character so broken they can’t be fixed and 2) a terribly sad story. The first isn’t the books fault. As a society we just really hate the very notion that some things can’t actually be fixed with therapy. As for the second, it’s well done. An accurate portrayal of deep pain.
