So far, this is one of the most beautiful and beautifully sad books I've ever read. I should have spent my youth reading Genet rather than Burroughs. Better late than never.

Re-read It, they said. It'll be fun, they said. I really want this horror show to be over so I can read something I'll actually enjoy.

Geez, this is so totally different to how I remember it. Its like a very fancy car that keeps breaking down: the theme is great but the stop/start is driving me bonkers and making for a very slow journey.

It's so nice to read a book based right where I live. I know these streets. I shop in these shops. I take my dog to the same vet. All the details and locations are so familiar, right down to Seb's death on the M4. Everyone has been in or knows of someone who has been in an accident on that god-awful thing.
I love how Australians write. No one on the planet writes the way we do.
/Patriotism over.

I'm so amazed by how well this book works. Only two characters and a BIG dark cave. Mostly deprived of physical senses (sight & touch) but left with pain, fear and betrayal. Much enjoyment.

Knowing that there are other dogs in the world that swear like a sailor makes me feel a little less bad about my own dogs potty mouth (she swears like swear words were on sale the day she learnt to speak). Also, there's a human in it, but the dog is obviously the important centrepiece here. This is brilliant... So far.

I'm a bit struggles with this. It doesn't have the ... pizzazz of its predecessor and is a bit slow. I feel like Fry wrote it because he was asked to do a follow-up, while the first was a work of the heart. It still is very, very good, but I already know all these myths in their myriad different versions. So, without the passion it doesn't really add anything new to the classics.

I want so much to rate this 5 stars now. I've been waiting for a well researched book by a professional to come along and officially debunk the AA/NA 12 Step sham. And this, by god, is it!
I've had to ban myself from taking excessive notes, as I realised I was copying almost every word on every page; It is all that important.

I'm terrified that her 'work' is going to be used not for the president's brother but against the women, so they can do away with the counters. The sense of impending doom is strong with this one, even though doom has already arrived.

While the two previous installments featured a lot of action this one does not. However I'm enjoying the more political storyline. Even though based in Russia the political craziness is relevant the world over. A nice and fitting direction for the Metro series to take.

I am so thoroughly impressed with how Andrew & Eric's relationship is written. They are two normal human beings who happen to be married. There's no stereotyping, no cliched gay male behaviour, no insulting 'gay lifestyle' insinuations. I'd be really surprised if Tremblay isn't gay. These are two of the best gay characters I have ever read, along with Lois & Reece from Ellis Reids fantastic 'Side Effects May Vary'.

I'm baffled by this book. Nothing is really happening but there's so much going on. There's no action yet there's loads of action. Something terrible seems to be coming yet it guarantees that everything can easily be OK. I hope the last half lives up to the first half.
It's a serious page turner and has twice kept me reading until well after midnight.

Kind of disappointed with the poor translation. According to a few online reviews, Lagercrantz didn't actually use any of Larssons existing work to write this, and so far it's very obvious. Still excited to read it, as long as I can get past the translation issues - which I'll definitely look at in review.

tentative thoughts: picked this up based in reviews saying it was offensive to everyone and full of horrific gore. there's been a fair bit of violence to animals which was really sad but nothing much else. Good story, not a slow burn like The Troop. i ♥ 'The New Republican Testament' - genius idea. this is like The Handmaids Tale on crack.

Page one, Golden Rule No. 1: where 'had' can be used there is never cause to use 'had had' - broken already:

'We didn’t want to move, but my dad had had other ideas'.

I won't mention paragraphs consisting of one short sentence *smh*.

Characters that sound like Australians without it feeling forced or trite or like an American writers stereotypical idea of what we should sound like.

Loving the introduction of the new technologies - also not forced or overly complicated as so often is when an author tries to provide something fresh and new.

Enjoying trying to place where everything is happening in relation to todays outer/urban topography.
