A loan from Dominic I've just got round to beginning, partly from simple pressure of the amount of Expanse content during Glasgow Worldcon... Not bad so far. I had to stop short as I've been very unwell, but I *will* be carrying on, eventually.

Hm. Not sure how I feel about this one. I like the writing style, the details of the setting and whatnot, but at the same time, the plot's been pretty thin so far - I'd solved the "mystery" of Gwenny's objections to Nigel & Sheila's marriage by the end of page 31. For the sake of the style I think I'll carry on, for a while at least.

Mid re-read, now that I have a paperback copy of Be The Serpent waiting for me to jump into! (No spoilers for that or this year's duo, please - it infuriates me to be so constantly a year behind on legal and disability-accessible instalments of this series.)

Audiobook, narrated by Kris Dyer.

I'm only about seven percent in, but I immediately had to slow the narration speed to 80% just to catch all the words, which was irritating in itself, but doesn't reflect on the actual text.

The book itself, however, is already boring me so much that I've paused at 1hr 10m and I'm seriously considering DNF'ing it before I've even reached 10%...

Yet another bloody "a woods" from the mouth of an uninfluenced Englishman! For crying out loud, can you don't?!

Page 5 & we already have "a haunted woods", at which I gave a disgusted snort. For goodness' sake, can't people at least TRY to write in the vernacular of their chosen setting? One would NOT hear an English poacher say "a woods". Even in 2021 that's not a term used this side of the Atlantic! "Woods" is plural here, never singular.

It doesn't bode well for the rest of the book, but I'll read on anyway, for now...

Listening one more time, for comfort reading and to refresh my memory while I wait to get hold of WSC.

Re-listening to a favourite audiobook quartet while playing Minecraft.

Ha! Pleasant surprise today - this book was gifted to me by someone from a bookshop doing an offer on Twitter, and I don't think he realised, but it's a signed copy! ^_^

In one sitting! I think when I'm done I'll have to re-read to take this all in and decide on a rating, but the only reason I'm really breaking my read now is that I'm knackered.

Re-reading an old favourite.

Not bad, so far. The characters' names are pretty, though some of the choices made for those seem erratic, culturally out-of-place with the others. The story isn't really in gear yet, but it's beginning better than the last paranormal fantasy romance I attempted. I hope it stays that way.
