Second act blues: Well rounded and unique characters become generic whiney Saturday morning television ecowarriors before one of them dies and they regain their identities (spoilers).
Charitably either the editor was asleep at the wheel or they really earned their paycheque and had to scythe through a further thousand pages of navel gazing before the steering the author back to the story. What a waste of paper

For the greater part roots was good, capturing each character and giving them a unique voice, by the end of trunk this is lost in a blancmange of directionless sermonising; sickly sweet, with unnatural tone and unappealing texture. The persistent braeing of the various protagonists indistinguishable as the author beats the reader about the head with his "message" and fetishism of bisexuality.

This book nearly didn't get started; the opening paragraphs had that basic bitch whimsy of terminally beige decor with the inevitable "live laugh love" mounted above the mantle. Fortunately from this faltering cadence it eventually found its stride.

We've not met lockhart flawse, the first chapter deals with his birth, upbringing, and debut into the world, but all through the lens of his grandfather. There is nothing specific about him, lockhart is a void of negative space in the middle of his grandfather's tyranny.

Going to need to re-start this. It's not a casual read and is going to require a much of my concentration.
