This was a mix of a book. There was interesting story building but there were quite a few holes. Like, the villages were matched up genetically with their spouses and could only reproduce with them once they had permission. I can't think of any society in which that approach works well.

I've got to say, I don't understand why some of the major plot points happened. They seemed hasty and random.

This book stayed really strong. It had interesting characters in an unusual setting and a fast start. And then... it just went nowhere. After 170 pages of the characters having no idea what was going on and the story barely progressing I gave up.

Given up. Can't follow. Don't care.

I have no understanding of the plot now...

Ergh, this book has such an awful portrayal of how men and women interact.

Here we go again... Still not sure why I'm bothering.

God damn it, I think I'm starting to like this plot. If only the characters were better...

Interesting story, unlikeable characters, poor writing.

Oh good, I always like it when novels introduce its female characters in terms of who they are or aren't fucking.
