I don't know if Brandewyne even tried for historical accuracy. Wulfgar would have been called Ragnarsson not Lodbroksson, and he would have been a thrall regardless of who his dad was (unless he freed him but that's no guarantee).

1) chess would not have been in England at this time because it was brought via the Norman conquest 2) I doubt the heroine would have been familiar with greek mythology

Ok so at some point, four years have gone by bc Amanda is 20 now and she was 16 in book one. But, I didn't realize that much time had gone by in the first two books? I thought it was only a couple of months/maybe a year, but this takes place a couple weeks after book 2, so idk about this timeline.

Ok honestly, this might just be me, but I don't see what Cassius did as that big a betrayal, or even really a betrayal at all. Like, y'all had known each other for a couple of hours and are entering a politically motivated arranged marriage...of course he was going to be like that? I understand why Aurora was angry, but it's not really a betrayal.

I have...issues with the romantic lead telling the heroine she's a child bc 1) it's kind of a gross relationship dynamic 2) he's only like a year older than her???? Like yeah he's been out in the field, but just bc she's inexperienced doesn't mean she's a child who can't know her mind

Ok also, I feel like getting a Pavan Stormling to marry her would have been politically smarter than getting a Locke tbh. Like Cassius will be the real power behind the throne bc he has magic and might fuck them over in favor of his home, but a Pavan would be less likely to do that.

I'm kind of at the point where I don't care about any of the characters, but I find the worldbuilding interesting enough to continue. But also: there's a difference between keeping your heir protected and hiding Rora's lack of magic and not teaching her about the realities of ruling and about her city, and in Rora's case she was def done a disservice.

I do have to roll my eyes at Rora calling court life frivolous. Like yeah, on the surface it can look frivolous, but court is a hugely important political area and not something to be taken lightly.

One chapter in and I can already tell that this is going to be like the grisha trilogy where I like the villain better than I do the actual love interest. Oops.

I feel like you can't call a book a romance or a love story if the love interests have had their first interaction at 2/3 in, and it wasn't even particularly memorable. The creepy relationship between the villain and his android has had more development than the actual love story which isn't great.

Ok idgaf that horses in this world have eight legs but why on earth would they be called sleipnir when there is no old Norse culture to create the legend of sleipnir???? This is like sjm levels of yanking random mythological references from the world and just throwing them into her books for spice.
