What the heck happened to Lydia??
In the first book, she was this impressive, brilliant woman whom Aleksander only characterized as a wolf and a harridan because she challenged him and was more than a match for him. In this book, she's a woman who reduces furniture to kindling when she throws tantrums.

Good grief. I was so emotionally wrenched and exhausted, and so much had happened, that I thought I was finishing the book--I look down and it says I'm only 40% of the way through. o_0

I tell you what, sexuality (even for squicky effect) in the midst of grotesque violence and body horror, really just a total bloodbath, is super not my thing. Going to stick with this for now, though.
