This is why it has taken me weeks to get this far in this book. My speed reading skills and energy have deserted me. Nevertheless, the book is definitely worth the effort. This is no book for speed reading. Eliot's writing skill ranks with the best and I intend to savor it, each wonderful simile and metaphor.

A slow read but very much worth the time. Ron Chernow can really get into the mind of his subject.
