I think it's impossible to follow the success of The Thursday Murder Club series with a different cast of characters and not have it feel artificial and flat. This new series seems designed to be more social media conscious and thereby appeal to a younger generation. I'm not sure that's a good idea.

I am astounded that this is written by the sane author as 1793 The Wolf and the Watchman. There is so much unnecessary gore and violence that it sickens me. I'm not sure i can finish this. And sadly, I ordered the 3rd in the trilogy already from Amazon.

I'm slowly making my way thru this book even though I have come to actively loathe the main character, who needs more therapy than half the country. Reading about middle aged white woman neuroses is only bearable fir me right now because of how dreadful the news and state of the world is.

I just cant finish this, about half way thru. I enjoyed the characters McBride created but there was so much discursive back story interrupting the narrative flow that I found it tedious. Maybe it's just me.

I just can't get any farther with this book. For some reason, I just can't invest in the characters, perhaps because I spend half the time trying to figure out who is who. I suspect this is a result of not knowing this is a sequel.

I'm about one third thru and really enjoying it, but I just learned that it is a sequel. No where on the jacket did I see mention of that. Now I feel like I walked into the middle of a movie and missed the beginning. Why would publisher and reviews not mention this is a sequel???? I feel like I should quit now and read the first book, Ordinary People. And on another note, why does every third book have to be a series

Started off well but has become a slog to read. Way too long with too many diversions. And unless you've worked in the medical field, the graphic description of procedures will make you nauseous.

Good grief, is there no moderator on Goodreads comments? I just briefly scanned top reviews and some asshole apparently named the culprit, with no spoiler alert. And there is another long ridiculous, petty, word battle about the author's controversial remarks in the media. I've enjoyed this series very much. Now I fear GOODREADS has ruined it for me., Rowling has completely nailed the vicious internet world.

I'm about half way thru and I wish I had read my own review of her previous book before picking up this one. I swear its the same book only set on an island! Starts out well and falls all to pieces with the neurotic main character, the worst detective ever, making stupid decisions. I will probably skim yo the end and NOTE TO SELF:no more by Sarah Pearse.

This book was a miracle find at a library book sale. I had never heard of this child psychologist before; apparently Poland still manages to venerate him. I am moving slowly thru this because there is so much wisdom to savor. This is a book that I am going to be recommending to all of my friends in MH and everyone who works with children. Given the abysmal treatment of children in the world today, this is vital insi

Much ado about too many people, all of which is simplistic and stereotypical. Reads like a made for TV miniseries, which I'm sure he's already sold the rights to. I'm going to try to finish this because of a couple interesting characters but this saga lacks depth. Give me Michener any day.

My timing in reading this may interfere with finishing it. The situation in Afghanistan is so heart breakingmthat it is hard to read the parts in this book about Iraq.

I won this thru Goodreads giveaways and I am really enjoying it. Ferrer is what all historians should be: a dynamic, vivid writer who is passionate about her subject matter. Though a long book, I suspect it will whiz by. I am already thinking of purchasing her other books.
