French have given up, and scandal smudges reputations of such well-known men as Eifel and Clemenceau. Will the Panama Canal be completed? America to the rescue as her presence is already felt with the machinery and technicians. McKinley is dead and TR leads the charge. David McCullough, thank you for all you've taught me over the years.

Sue is starting The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
were this not a novel selected for the discussion group, i would return the book to the library and continue reading my other books. at chapter 11, i have not changed my opinion. muddle through i will, but reward myself with a short story to close the day with a lighter heart.

Sue is on page 204 of 320 of Chronicles of a Radical Hag
really enjoying the structure of the novel with clippings from a columnist of a small newspaper providing a bridge of communication between busy paper-editor mother and "underachiever" teenager son.

deep and engrossing. must concentrate to accept the information which seems layered and takes me to index to refresh a reference. definitely not to be rushed. probably will need a second read through to understand his point of view in arriving at his conclusions.

Sue is 50% done with Lincoln at Cooper Union: The Speech That Made Abraham Lincoln President
the book stays in the car where it goes with me to meetings, appointments that may permit down time to read. never difficult to get back into the material as the unfolding of Lincoln insights increases the scope of dogged energy behind the legend of a sainted hero.
