I’m really liking this.

At 34% I’m curious how the author is going to make it feel like the story needs so many pages, 600+. So far it’s been great. I’m nervous it’s going to drag out with so many pages left to go.

My interest is waning. Plus this is a library loan that’s almost due and I won’t be able to renew. I’m not sure I’m gonna finish it in time.

The writing has such a YA feeling to it. And the details are already not jiving. So Elara is perfectly comfortable being helped out of her clothes because she’s had servants helping her dress her whole life as she gets into the bath. Yet after the bath when she’s given clothes to wear that are more revealing than she’s used to, by the same servant, she now needs to dress behind a screen??

These books are just so looooong. Ugh

It’s weird little details that can make me struggle to be immersed as a reader. Details that can pull me right out of the story. For instance, who sleeps in a nightgown and the matching robe???? Like… no one sleeps in the robe too. Or if they do it’s because they’ve accidentally fallen asleep before getting into bed and the author better explain this to account for the weird sleeping behavior.

I’m not even 50% in and I’m already bummed that I’ll have to wait 5 months for book 3 to be published. 😩

I’ve been struggling with this book on and off. The pacing is too slow. Some of the dialogue is too simple, unrefined, or cringey at times. I’m already considering just waiting to start book 2 until the 3rd book is released. And honestly if the 3rd book isn’t the final book I may not finish the series…

I think I’m gonna DNF this.

Chapter 22. So I’m liking this but also feeling this need to pause. I can tell this is going to be drug out with how the pacing has been so far and I know the series isn’t complete. I think I’m gonna put this on the back burner for awhile.

I’m starting to get a bit bored…

I’m having a really hard time with Lor blaming Nadir for her abuse and torture. His hands have been tied his whole life by his father. It’s a weak argument and I’m getting tired of hearing her go on about it.

So while I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this series, I do have several nitpicky frustrations with it. The ‘fear’ that everyone shows towards the Dravens and Oleander is a weak plot device. Especially when the ‘fear’ of the uber powerful is the excuse she gives for ppl being drawn to the resistance. 🙄

Having sex while your friends are fighting to save a city from an attack is disgusting. A battle that you could absolutely get to in time to help. A battle that your bullshit choices have directly caused. I’ve been disgusted on so many levels with this series but this may be the worst.

I’m so freaking mad at Tessa over Luka’s predicament. She could have helped weeks before she finally did. His situation is literally on her.

Lazy lazy lazy author. The same problem a different day. Still Tessa falls back to the, “I’m nothing.” self loathing and wallowing. Can we see some growth please for crying out loud!?!?

I’m constantly annoyed and frustrated with this author. She’s so lazy with her storytelling in some regards. Over and over and over again the scene she sets has her characters pouring themselves a glass of liqueur or wine, or grabbing a bottle of water. They’re all alcoholics.

I’m so invested and yet exhausted. Foooreal. This is exhausting. It’s becoming a bit of a slog. So I’m hoping something new happens soon.

I’m struggling. At first the pacing was moving at a good clip. Now we’re just slowly plodding along. I rly need this storyline to get back on task already!

A couple of paragraphs in I was considering putting this down for a later date because I didn’t feel like starting a sci-fi. I waffled because I got this via a library hold so I made myself read on. After just a couple of pages I was hooked. So I guess I’m reading a sci-fi.
