Diane is starting The Time Keeper
This is supposed to show as an update: At a loss for what to read and remembered that I had like 600 books in my "free" Kindle folder. The majority of them old from when I first even got a Kindle and was all in to downloading free books whenever I found ones that looked good. Not sure how to pick one, I just counted to the 6th one down (since it's the 6th). I have high hopes for this one.

Thought I would take a minute to update the star-rating/shelves of books I've been reading -- since I haven't always been doing it automatically via hte kindle -- and can't remember if that floods your feed with each one of those updates individually. If so, sorry!!

Meh. I knew this wasn't going to be high art but I also knew that *whatever* I picked to follow Winter of the Witch was going to pale in comparison. So I wanted fluff (just went to my free books collection and picked something that shared with A) and I certainly got it. This is going to end up a 1.5 start book for sure but it's at least filling the gap I needed it to fill!

As another group member said, I have this to say:

"Dear Past Self,

Why did you wait so long to read this book?"

I was really dragging my heals about starting this and so far I'm really enjoying it.

Diane is reading The 19th Wife
Found this on the shelf of thrift store purchases I buy when browsing because they look good to read "someday". I was putting "the other queen" back on the shelf and since I'm not on anything new yet on the kindle, grabbed this one. It looks like the sweeping sort of historical book I am right in the mood for.

I vowed I was going to update for every book I read again, starting in 2013 and already I am SO FULL OF FAIL. However, all month I've been pretty much exclusively reading Pride and Prejudice "sequels", so I am not sure you are missing anything!

This is a simple story accompanied by simple cartoons, a la diary of a wimpy kid. We started it at bedtime last night and it made us both laugh out loud more than once so that gets it a big thumbs up so far.

Well, that was some huge jump from confused farm girl to I AM SUPER POWER, HERE ME ROAR!! that the main character just made. I can appreciate the author maybe not wanting to plod along with the easing-into-it steps of adjustment but geeze. Still, this is moving along as an okay read; starting to feel a bit juvenile (and i can't remember if this is a YA book) do to the lack of depth.

I just got around to doing the books for the compatibility quiz and mucking about with my bookshelves and I HOPE THAT DIDN'T ACTUALLY FLOOD EVERYONE'S FEEDS!! because that would suck.

I'm enjoying this so far. This is your regular ol' 'coming of age' fantasy book wherein scruffy ol' farm teen turns out to be Mega Super Magical Answer To The Prophecy. I like that sort of fantasy (hey, I read the Belgariad for the first time in highschool and IT WAS GREAT). This isn't quite the Belgariad but it is certainly a pleasant little story so far.

oof. I'm getting pretty close to just starting to skim-read this book at this point. I just can't get into it, even on a "fluff read" level because there are a lot of gaps in the world building aspect AND the main character is a twit. The two together are almost too much. But, at least now there is also cutting!

"the operation guideline wouldn't let you have jet-black hair, which the Committee thought was too extreme, but Zane dyed his with calligraphy ink. On top of that, he didn't eat much, keeping his face gaunt, his stare intense." Aside from the fact that Zane sounds like the sort skull-face hotty I loved in high school, i thought the point of getting Pretty was that the motivation for this sort of thing went away.

So, now everyone is pretty and -- from what I understand -- now all will be well and all will be well and all manner of things will be well. Right? Because that's the POINT of making everyone pretty? We're all pretty together? Except there are ... cliques. Which you get voted into. (or not) And you can get enhancement surgeries (like jewels in your eyes) because ... Pretty wasn't Pretty enough?

This isn't too horrible! You've got to not mind the word errors ("no" for "know" and then a page later "now" for "know") and then a bit of a stretch as far as the circumstances go, but otherwise I don't hate it or anything. I did manage to fall asleep just fine while reading it (last night, and before today's nap) so I wouldn't say it is GRIPPING me but I *am* curious to see where it goes.

I can't remember when I got this book & at this point I can't remember exactly what i thought of the 1st one (i see i gave it 3 stars but didn't review it) other than it dragged on & left a lot of large questions unanswered. I guess the fact that I didn't rush to star reading this, the second book, says it all. Nonetheless, I'm going to give the 2nd book a chance now because I'm in the mood for YA something.

Just finished the bit where Jonas had his dream with Stirrings & gets the pill to do away with them. Jet, who hasn't had any Stirrings yet as far as I know, looked to get squirmy when I started explaining what Stirrings were (vaguely) & and then we more talked about negative emotions (jealousy, angst, etc.) that can result from them & why they might be considered a good thing to do away with.

Jet is reading this for school (it has been a great year for books in English: the hobbit, followed by a wrinkle in time, followed by this) and so of course I butt right in and offered to read it to him as our bedtime book. We started it last night.
