When Nathan and his family came from being wealthy to being nearly broke, I worried about them. How could they maintain their lavish lifestyle in NYC? Then I learned that the rich friends had suffered the same fate, and I was pleased. Others shared the same fate.

I am enjoying the read. It is a comedy of errors bordering on slapstick. Goings on in Marmot's closet -- well I can see how hilarious that would be on stage.

Too much vulgarity keeps me from reading crime/thrillers. I complained about it to some entity, and since then, my thrillers have been quite tame! Has the genre been cleaned up just for me, or have I gotten lucky in my choices?

Sometimes the author is very kind to his reader. He becomes very intimate with the reader

Nearly finished. My sympathies are with Agrippina. This author leads me into said sympathy much like he did with Genghis Kahn.

I read a book where a man survived the Titanic only to take the Lusitania back to England. Quite ironic.

The book is a slow read. My fault for I found a game , Tidy Master, where I have to find hidden objects. There is a little animated dog, Daisy, who smiles at every find. She laughs when I touch her nose. We have such a good time together! My husband heard me laughing with Daisy and said I was a cheap date because it did not take much to make me happy.

Athens and Sparta and lesser city states would fight each other until the Persians came to conquer as much of Greece as possible, then Sparta and Athens would join in routing out the Persians.

Pericles was injured in hand to hand combat, but the author kept the action going. When he felt a sword hit bone and a hit to his leg caused his blood to spurt, the mother in me wanted to stop the fighting so that I could asses his injuries. Am I alone with this emotional reading?

Being physically fit paid off for Pericles. He could run rings around the other combatants and never tire.

Pericles is nineteen, and the author writes like a nineteen year old would act and think. As Pericles ages, I expect the author will write likewise. I could be fooled thinking like this, but in past experiences reading Mr. Iggulden this is the tack he uses. To say the main character is not flat would have saved my words.

By the fifth chapter I ought to be getting a sense about the book. I am not. I will keep reading because I may owe the author.
