Very readable and fascinating story of the heritage of a mountain family. The author incorporated a very real issue of adolescence that made the main character endeared to the reader

This is so poorly written though I do have to say it was easy to imagine Dolly just sitting there speaking these words aloud. In fact I suspect it was her dictating to someone simply recording her words. It was kind of neat to read the background to some of her songs but after a few it got pretty redundant. Still love her but she should stick to songs.

This entire novel was character development of 9 guests at a boutique health retreat as well as that of the owner. Weird enough to keep me interested in how the strangeness of the retreat was going to play out but not enough to finish it in less than a month.

Delightful feel good story. Difficult to read in parts with Yorkshire dialogue but that lends to the feel of setting and characters. Had originally thought to read with my class but the Yorkshire dialect as written as well as some of the British terminology would be cumbersome for English language learners. Glad myself to have experienced this classic!

Some great ideas but was looking for more concrete outline of setting up vocab program.

Cast of characters just as confusing the second time around but neat how he pulls them all together throughout

Still a great read for 4-5th grade.
